Pema is one of the thirty-four children who came to Jhamtse Gatsal in 2006. Her dream is to become a doctor to serve people in the remote region of Jhamtse Gatal. Lack of medical facilities, doctors, and resources creates problems in the area. In an emergency, travel to medical facilities in Tezpur and Guwahati takes 17-18 hours by car.

Pema is diligently studying hard and trying to score well in her medical entrance exams. She is working to pass the NEET exam. NEET is a national-level exam required to learn to become a doctor. There are only 5-6 thousand seats to become a doctor, making this exam highly competitive and requiring patience, hard work, and time.

Pema, and fellow Jhamtse Students Tenzin and Dorjee, are all preparing for the medical entrance exam. All three of them are staying together in one of our staff's relatives' homes. The host families often appreciate and praise the girls. These children are very humble, hardworking, kind-hearted, and actively participate in the family's daily chores. Such values and education are hard to find in modern days school kids.

Pema is working very hard and refused to take any break during any holidays or festivals this year. We are proud to hear this and feel that she understands and values the resources, time, and love being provided to her to fulfill her dream. She is highly enjoying her studies. In her words, Kota is a fast-moving city, and life there is immensely different. For her, Jhamtse is not just a place; it's a feeling for people, an emotion of love and compassion to others.
